Like any good rake, he goes about wooing her in a most ungentlemanly way--with a wager that she will marry him by the end of the season. Fortunately, the independent Brina is more than a match for this unlikely Earl, and makes her own bet that he can't survive without his vices while he woos her. VERDICT The book is carefully plotted, with instant chemistry between the leads, and a heroine with some depth. Grey (The Earl Next Door, 2019) expertly layers plenty of steamy sexual tension into the inventive plot of the concluding volume of her First Comes Love trilogy, and the resulting battle of wits and opposing wagers between a roguish nobleman and a virtuous widow is a rare treat for fans of Sophie Jordan or Valerie Bowman.
