She is dreading the upcoming Offering, an auction in which witches are sold to men in power who aim to use the girls’ gifts for their own gain. Unwilling to use her magic for evil and refusing to be bound to a man she hasn’t chosen, Rosa plots to escape the island. When her plans take a disheartening turn, she enlists the help of Mariano, the brooding “Prince of Pirates” who recently washed ashore and is fleeing his own demons. With only seven days before Rosa is sold to the highest bidder, the two—accompanied by Mariano’s mischievous best friend Santiago—tenaciously fight to free her from the isle and the kingdom’s sinister clutches. Ana Osoria lends her wispy, elegant narration to this romantic adventure. Rosalinda is a young witch who was exiled to Sinner's Isle. Now of age, she plans to escape before the Offering, an annual tradition that casts the resident women into the hands of nefarious male visitors. She meets a charming pirate, Mariano, and they work together to escape before the Offering ends. This is a standard story involving classic romantic tension between two unlikely heroes. Osoria's delicate voice offers the right quality for scenes involving magic and tender romance. Though Rosalinda and Mariano are depicted with strong and compatible personalities, the crowning moments of the narration are the rich world-building and daring action sequences.
